AB InBev Will Buy SABMiller, But Miller to be Sold

November 11, 2015 by News

Anheuser-Busch InBev announced a final agreement to buy SABMiller for $107 billion bucks and will create a giant brewer of mass-market beer brands.

To appease regulators in the United States, SABMiller will sell it’s 58% stake in MillerCoors to Molson Coors (got that?). The deal makes Molson Coors the second-largest brewer in the United States, behind Anheuser-Busch InBev.

This means SABMiller would give up its rights to the Miller brand worldwide (Miller, Lite, MGD, etc.) and MillerCoors would retain the rights to sell the brands it has in its portfolio in the United States, like Peroni and Pilsner Urquell. That sale depends on the closing of the other sale (got that?). Stockholders would still need to vote on the deal, which would happen sometime next year.

In addition, Anheuser-Busch InBev agreed to sell the rights to Corona beer and other Grupo Modelo brands in the United States to Constellation Brands for $2.9 billion.

The new mega-mega-company does not yet have a name, but that’s what the comments section is for.
